HOW IT WORKS
How Hypochlorous Acid Works
Hypochlorous Acid (HOCL) is one of the most natural and effective known biocides known to man. It eradicates all bacteria, mycobacteria, spores, fungi, viruses – even the tough Clostridium difficile, and is 100% safe for humans, chemical-free, non-toxic and all-natural. That’s an impressive combination. It has been used in the medical field for over a century. Before antibiotics were available, HOCl was used to irrigate and disinfect wounds in World War I.
Hypochlorous Acid oxidizes (explodes) the cell wall of all pathogens causing necrosis (rupturing of the cell) or apoptosis (programmed cell death) and destroys them. Though viruses are not technically living organisms, they too are destroyed by hypochlorous acid. Despite this destructive potential, our bodies use this defense throughout life.
Hypochlorous Acid is naturally produced by our white blood cells and is an essential part of our immune system. This process is called phagocytosis and is one of humans' most symbiotic actions – eliminating pathogens yet being inherently harmless, unlike most other disinfectants that are toxic.
You can use hypochlorous for surface disinfection! Cardiff University found that wet wipes spread deadly superbugs because most wipes dry out before the solution has had the necessary contact time. However, hypochlorous can be sprayed liberally on all surface types.
Hypochlorous acid is the perfect weapon to fight germs.
SIMPLE CHEMISTRY
The actual process that creates Hypochlorous acid (HOCL 500PPM) and Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) solutions is called electrolysis or a form of electrochemistry. Basically, we start with a simple brine solution and use electricity to create a powerful disinfectant and degreaser without using harmful chemicals.
The disinfectant is 500ppm FAC hypochlorous (HOCl) at 6.5-7pH and the cleaner/degreaser is sodium hydroxide (NaOH) at 10-12 pH.
BETTER THAN THE TRADITIONAL PRODUCTS
Our solution is generated at a pH range of 6.5 – 7. Other products are either very high pH (basic) or very low pH (acidic). Because the product is very close to neutral pH, benign and water-based, the germ lets it in freely. After it’s inside, the FAC (Free Available Chlorine) destroys the bacteria, virus or spore – preventing resistance.
Like everything natural, HOCL and Catholyte FREE revert back into simple salt water and don’t burden the environment that we all live in. The same cannot be said about traditional products.
